Mural madness

In a certain Hepto puzzle, we wanted to draw cave paintings as a motif for the textures of the parts, so we searched for reference animal paintings. However, what caught our attention was an ancient mural depicting a “many hands”.

What kind of thoughts or rituals did ancient people have when they painted murals like this? When we were exploring a cave and suddenly this paint appears in front of me, I feel so insane that I run out screaming.
